How to apply for membership in SoBAD:

SoBAD is a WORKING CLUB.  This means that every member is expected to make a significant contribution in time and effort towards the success of club events and activities.  This also means that every member is welcome to suggest and organize activities.  General meetings are held at least quarterly (every 3 months), are run using the Formal Consensus Process.   Special meetings or committee meetings are arranged as needed.

Please contact Ginny Cappello (Email:  vcappello@na.ko.com), our membership coordinator, if you are interested or considering membership in SoBAD.

SoBAD Vision Statement:
  • To promote the sport of agility in the spirit of fun, fellowship, good sportsmanship, and responsible dog ownership.
  • To promote awareness of the special nature of the human-canine relationship necessary to succeed in the sport of agility.
  • To facilitate the safe participation of all breeds and breed combinations.
SoBAD Member Point System:

Full members earn points when they do make significant contributions to the club's success.  The latest amendments instituted a "flat rate" system to make it easy to add up points earned, as follows.   Another review of the point system is underway soon (winter 2004):

Additional guidelines:
  • 1 hour of work = 1 point = $1
  • Volunteering in certain jobs results in more benefits.
  • Bonus points will be awarded after accumulating a certain minimum of points.
  • Family members of SoBAD members are encouraged to help out, and by doing so, may earn and then donate their points, to their family member who is also a SoBAD member.
  • Any member who feels they deserve more points than the "flat rates" above, may discuss the issue with club leaders, a trial chair, and/or at a club meeting.
  • Members are responsible for keeping track of their own points.  A sample tracking sheet is available in the files section of the SoBAD email list.
  • Points can only be used for SoBAD events, as indicated per event.  Points are not redeemable for cash.  Points may be "cashed in" as specified for seminars and other events.  Points may also be redeemed as payment for annual membership renewal, for full members only.  When redeeming points, a copy of the tracking page with appropriate notations should be included with the registration form.
  • For the 2003-04 seminar season, points may be "cashed in" as follows:
For your first choice of seminar, you may "cash in" up to 100 points, off the SoBAD member cost.  For your second and third choices of seminars, you may then cash in up to 50 points off the SoBAD member price.
  • Non-members can be awarded coupons for outstanding work provided to and/or on behalf of SoBAD – these will be paper "SoBAD Bucks."  Examples:
20 points to a Ringmaster/Coursebuilder for the day
20 points to an all-day scorekeeper
10 points to someone who pitched in repeatedly, in addition to assigned jobs.

Further amendments to the point system may be discussed and passed in the future.
